Mel and Janet's Excellent Adventure

This blog is a way for Janet and Mel to communicate with friends and family during their incredible journeys following retirement. Of course, some adventures are less than incredible. You might not find those here. Their most recent adventure took them to Okinawa, Japan to see their now 4-year old twin grandchildren, Milana Michelle and Tavis Michael. Feel free to add your comments, questions, or just news. Private communications can be sent to m-muchnik@sbcglobal.net.

Seguret

Seguret, France

In the last few days of our stay in Vissec, Mel's computer went on the fritz, making it nearly impossible to post messages on the blog. We could have driven into Le Vigan, half an hour away, but the internet cafe there was usually quite busy and getting acesss to a computer not easy. So, here's a bit of update on our last few days of the trip.

We completed our stay in Vissec with one more hike. Tom and Mel studied maps of the region and selected one they felt would be a nice, nearly level walking path through the woods. We parked the car and walked uphill for a while but it was through the woods and not terribly steep. Then we began to climb towards a peak. At the top, after really pulling to get over huge rocks, we realized this might not be the correct path. Tom quipped, "Well, so much for a flat path."

We retraced our steps and found what we though was the correct path. Again, we wound up climbing towards a peak. At the top there were huge boulders that Fay could scale, given her long legs, but there was no way that Tom or I would have gotten over them. Again Tom quipped, "Well, so much for our map reading skills."

On Saturday, we left for Seguret. The owner of the flat in Paris that Fay and Tom had rented in the beginning of their year in France also owned a home in Seguret, a mountain village designated as "one of the most beautiful villages in France," and it certainly was. Unfortunately, we only had one full day to enjoy in Seguret but we made good use of it, eating in two spectacular restuarants, walking around the village and visiting a c ouple of nearby towns. We saw a poster for a wine festival in a nearby town and attended. It was very much like the market days but included many booths in which to taste locally-produced wines. A priest blessed the event. There was a parade and some folk dancing from the region.

On Monday, we said goodby to Fay and Tom and left France - sadly.
