Mel and Janet's Excellent Adventure

This blog is a way for Janet and Mel to communicate with friends and family during their incredible journeys following retirement. Of course, some adventures are less than incredible. You might not find those here. Their most recent adventure took them to Okinawa, Japan to see their now 4-year old twin grandchildren, Milana Michelle and Tavis Michael. Feel free to add your comments, questions, or just news. Private communications can be sent to m-muchnik@sbcglobal.net.

Joan of Arc

On our way back to Paris for our last night, we spent a couple of nights visiting old friends from San Francisco, Sonya and Phillip Hunt, who had rented a home in the Loire.  They mentioned that the next town was Chinon, the site where Joan of Arc had first met the Dauphin Charles, convinced him to declare himself king and to allow her to lead an army against the British and drive them out of France. Naturally, we stopped in Chinon on our way to Paris and visited the Castle.  If you remember "The Lion in Winter," that was the castle in which Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn lived.  (OK, OK, so not O'Toole and Hepburn but the folks they played in the movie.) Video screens in various rooms in (what is left of) the castle, recount its history.
