The English Countryside

Knutsford, Cheshire, England

We have arrived in England and are visiting John and Judy Webster in Knutsford. It is very pastoral - small villages surrounded by dairy or sheep farms. The nearest Village is Lyme, a couple of small, curved streets but with its own butcher, bakery, pharmacy, grocery and a couple of pubs and restaurants. Many of the buildings appear to date back to the 1600s. Being here gives the words "history" and "antique" a whole new meaning.

The gardens are in bloom with spring flowers. English gardens are a riot of color. Unlike French gardens which are always symmetrical, English gardens have a less-formal look but obviously take as much, if not more, planning.

We could not have started our trip in a better place. John and Judy are the most gracious people in the world and have encouraged us to rest and adjust to the time change, in between feeding us glorious meals.
