Two beautiful villages

The Dordogne is famous for several things, not the least of which is the concentration of villages officially designated "the most beautiful villages in France". Below are four photos from two of those villages. The top two photos are from La Roque-Gageac. It is basically a one-street town, very ancient, nestled between the river and the overhanging cliffs. We took a ride on the river in a boat called a gabarre, which is the kind Johnny Depp used in the movie "Chocolat".

The other two photos are from a town named St. Leon-sur-Vezere (which means St. Leon on the River Vezere). We ate lunch in a wonderful little restaurant then wandered around the town. We went into a Gothic-looking church. It had a long, hand-printed history on its bulletin board. Could not read it but the date 1053 was very clear in the first sentence of the history.
