Glaciers, Volcanos, and Lakes

The incredible journey continues up the Chilean coast. At the north end of Patagonia on a gray day and light rain, the 600 foot high wall of the Amalia Glacier is fed from the ice sheet to the left of the photo. Then today the lake district just above Patagonia. We took a catamaran journey on an emerald lake with four volcanoes in view. Chile has 2,000 volcanoes, 50-60 of them active.

Remember the song from "South Pacific" that goes "I joined the navy to see the world, and what did I see, I saw the sea..."? Well, the Pacific got me this week so I missed the Amalia Glacier. Today, however, we had another most amazing day. We planned a trip to see volcanoes but the weather was predicted to be really bad, in which case they would not be visible. As you can see from the photos, not a cloud in the sky...and one of the volcanoes had most perfect shape you'd ever want to see. Now, back out to the big,bad Pacific, Dramamine and bed for me. Probably Metaxa and toasted cheese for Mel!
