Janet has described the experience wonderfully. Just a couple of additions. We were warned to stay indoors because of flying debris including cocunut tree leaves and the actual cocnuts propelled by the 85 mph winds. Yeeks.
I must say being on the beach during the eye of the storm was eerie and wildly exciting. It was if the Cyclone was finally announcing its presence as it came 10-14 miles off the coast of exactly where we were.

We are in the Southern Cooks in Rarotonga - several hundred miles south of Samoa. But the tropical cyclones have been tracking from there to here.
